Catherine Poulain
Catherine Poulain, qui signe ses œuvres KTY, est une artiste française. Artiste peintre contemporaine, elle est aussi performeuse et écrivain. Son travail a été présenté dans de nombreux pays — France, Allemagne, Italie, Pologne, Chine — et relayé par la presse et la télévision. Sa formation initiale en architecture et scénographie nourrit discrètement une pratique à la fois engagée et pluridisciplinaire.
Démarche artistique
L’œuvre de Catherine Poulain naît de la violence du monde et tend vers l’équilibre : celle qui fracture les liens humains et les équilibres planétaires. Ses peintures ne la représentent pas — elles la traversent. Cri, élan, énergie brute : la couleur coule comme un langage à décrypter.
Les lignes se déploient comme des rayons de lumière ou des canaux organiques — visions qui vont de l’infiniment petit à l’infiniment grand. Dans les tons chauds, on y devine la circulation sanguine, les plis de la peau, les textures corporelles. Mais aussi des chemins, des arbres, des fleuves, l’écorce de la terre dans les tons verts ou noir et blanc. Par empreinte du corps en monotype, elle approche l’intimité de l’Être, jusqu’à l’imaginaire du non-Être. La lutte pour la liberté s’y lit : traces effacées, tension entre le chaos des drippings et la structure des géométries.
La lumière est centrale, appelant à l’espoir. Travaillant dans des palettes chromatiques resserrées, Catherine Poulain construit des univers intenses et cohérents : les camaïeux de bleus évoquent la paix, l’universalité, l’infini spirituel. Son travail interroge les coïncidences, la poésie, les présences humaines, la liberté et la dérision — avec une dimension visionnaire qui interpelle la mémoire et l’imaginaire.
Parcours & engagements
En 2004, Catherine Poulain initie le mouvement d’artistes Transversales K afin d’organiser des actions artistiques solidaires et évènements culturels internationaux de façon transversale à Paris.
En 2010, le critique d’art Mantionne d’Aragon signe une analyse approfondie de ses peintures.
En 2021, le critique et historien d’art contemporain Paul Ardenne commente les performances du collectif Now Artists Outsiders créées en duo dans l’espace public et en galeries à Paris et Berlin.
Technique
Catherine Poulain travaille sur toile, papier, plexiglas, et directement sur les murs. Elle emploie la peinture acrylique, les encres et les pigments pour ses fonds abstraits, puis intervient à l’aérosol à l’aide de pochoirs qu’elle crée et découpe elle-même. Sa peinture joue de la transparence du support, de la matière et de la lumière.

Catherine Poulain
Catherine Poulain, who signs her works KTY, is a French artist. A contemporary painter, she is also a performer and writer. Her work has been shown in numerous countries — France, Germany, Italy, Poland, China — and featured in the press and on television. Her initial training in architecture and scenography quietly informs a practice that is both committed and multidisciplinary.
Artistic practice statement
Catherine Poulain’s work is born from the violence of the world and reaches toward balance — a violence that fractures human bonds and planetary equilibria. Her paintings do not represent it — they move through it. Cry, impulse, raw energy: colour flows as a visual language to decipher.
Lines unfold like rays of light or organic channels — visions ranging from the infinitely small to the infinitely large. In warm tones, one can sense the circulation of blood, the folds of skin, bodily textures. But also paths, trees, rivers, the crust of the earth in greens or black and white. Through body imprints in monotype, she approaches the intimacy of Being, reaching toward the imaginary of non-Being. The struggle for freedom can be read there: erased traces, tension between the chaos of drippings and the structure of geometries.
Light is central, calling toward hope. Working within restrained chromatic palettes, Catherine Poulain builds intense and cohesive worlds: shades of blue evoke peace, universality, spiritual infinity. Her work explores coincidences, poetry, human presence, freedom and irony — with a visionary dimension that speaks to memory and imagination.
Career & Commitments
In 2004, Catherine Poulain initiated the Transversales K artists’ movement in order to organize solidarity-based artistic actions and international cultural events in a cross-disciplinary manner in Paris.
In 2010, art critic Mantionne d’Aragon wrote an in-depth analysis of her paintings.
In 2021, contemporary art critic and historian Paul Ardenne commented on the performances of the NAO collective — created as a duo in public spaces, galleries and alternative venues in Paris and Berlin.
Technique
Catherine Poulain works on canvas, paper, plexiglass, and directly on walls. She uses acrylic paint, inks and pigments for her abstract grounds, then works with aerosol spray using stencils she creates and cuts herself. Her painting plays with the transparency of the support, its materiality and light.
